Joe Bowler will judge the The
Portrait Society of America's first members only Self-Portrait Competition in
2007. The submission deadline is December 15, 2007. The winning portraits will
be published in an upcoming issue of International Artist magazine and
will be reproduced the the Portrait Society's quarterly newsletter. The winners
will also participate in a special exhibition at the 2006 The Art of the
Portrait conference in Dallas, Texas. The competition features non- commissioned
works.
Joe says, "Painting family members
is much like doing self-portraits because the clients who commission portraits
place constrictions on the artist. They can be subtle, even unspoken, but in the
mind of the artist, they exist. Doing non- commissioned paintings is an
opportunity for the artist to experiment, learn and grow." |
